The 23rd Nordic Migration Research Conference (NMRC 2026) was hosted by Södertörn University in Stockholm, Sweden.
STRIDE presented ongoing research titled “The Evolution of Inequalities in Education and Policies in Europe for Roma Children”, led by Junior Researcher Joan Ventura Piquer, with STRIDE researchers including Anikó Bernát and Borbála Lőrincz (TÁRKI), and Justyna Bell and Lihong Huang (OSLOMET), as co-authors.
The presentation took place on 12 August as part of Panel 26B: Education and Equity.
The research aims to establish an equity policy evaluation framework using STRIDE resources, specifically the Policy Reforms Repository, combined with an analysis of data on education indicators focusing on Roma children, gathered by the Fundamental Rights Agency.
By conducting a longitudinal and cross-national analysis of these indicators, the researchers study the evolution of inequalities affecting Roma learners and aim to evaluate the effect of targeted policy reforms on reducing these inequalities.
The research is expected to be published in a future Thematic Issue of the Nordic Journal of Comparative and International Education (NJCIE).
The Thematic Issue, titled “A comparison of education policy reforms for equity and inclusion in Europe”, will bring together the work carried out by STRIDE researchers and their results and conclusions on the usefulness of this framework and the current situation of Roma learners in Europe, sparking debate and inspiring future research on equity in education.
